This entry is part 17 of 18 in the series The Dark

We walked, then, through the dark tunnels, with hardly a care in the world. We were hand-in-hand, and I thrilled at your touch. We talked in hushed tones, reluctant to wake up anything that might be lurking out of sight.

The tunnel we were in just then began to slant upwards, the first such ascension either of us had experience in quite some time. As Wayfinders, we knew this meant our journey was drawing to a close, that Haven was approaching, albeit from a different direction than ever before. We had blazed a new trail through unknown tunnels and caverns and found ourselves on the other side. This would be hailed as a great accomplishment once we arrived in Haven.

We walked for quite a while, then, always on a slight upward slant, talking all the while. We knew what we had discovered was notable and, even, laudable. We talked about what the others would have to say once we got back. We knew there would be some worry to be smoothed out. We had, after all, been gone for quite some time. But we were well on our way back now, and there was certain to be excitement once we emerged from the tunnels again.
