This entry is part 18 of 18 in the series The Dark

We emerged from the tunnels back into Haven just as a search party was about to leave to look for us. We described our journey, our adventure, to the others as they listened with rapt attention. All the while, you had an arm around my waist, and I had one around your shoulders.

Our journey had changed the nature of our relationship, as we’d learned to rely more on each other, to trust each other more. We had become more than friends. We were a team, a couple, even. It had happened so naturally that neither of really needed to talk about it. It just was.

We both knew that neither of us would travel the dark all alone ever again. We knew there was nothing to fear so long as we had each other’s backs.

The dark didn’t seem so dark anymore.
