Gravity Waves

Lindsey thumbs her comm off and looks around her. Her bridge crew are all strapped into their respective seats, busy with their jobs. An alert pops up on her dash.

“Helm,” she calls out. “What’s this alert about? I see we’ve made three course adjustments in the last hour.”

“Yes, sir,” helm officer Natasha Brinks replies. “We’re having some trouble establishing a stable orbit. It seems that the gravity well is erratic, pulling us in at some points and seeming to almost not be there at all at other points. So, we’re having to use the engines to negotiate the changeable gravity. It’s not a major thing; the course adjustments are always minor, but it doesn’t look like a stable orbit is going to be feasible just now.”

Lindsey nods, almost to herself. “Very well,” she says. “Keep me posted if anything changes or if our unstable orbit becomes even less stable.”

“Aye, Captain,” comes Natasha’s response.
