Yahoo! flipped the switched today, and their Geocities services found it’s final rest today. It’s a little nostalgic for me, since I spent my formative web design years with Geocities. My first (admittedly garish) website was built using their services, and I think I threw every single bell and whistle into it that I could find. It was the place where I became relatively proficient with HTML and served as the launching point for my current ventures with dynamic web design. It was a great way to get started.

I miss my first website, it was on geocities and was about quake. I even knew of the guys at the development house who gave me a copy to distribute on release day. :-)
Ahhh those were the days.
Yeah, I actually started on Angelfire, then switched to Geocities shortly thereafter (for reasons I can no longer remember). I hosted with them for two or three years before I discovered WordPress.

Ah, I used to be at Geocities.com/amsblog. It was my first email account, and my first website. I used it to promote my book for years and I remember really loving working on it.
Book? Do tell…
