I’ve just picked up my first paid writing gig – Mark over at “Weblog Tools Collection”:http://weblogtoolscollection.com posted a brief note a couple of days ago indicating he was looking for someone to take over the daily theme and plugin release entries. Well, I’ve relied on those for a long time as my best source for new utilities for WordPress, and I’ve been disappointed recently that they’ve been inconsistent, and I’ve always wanted to start making a little money doing something I love – so I jumped on that and contacted Mark to express my interest. Today, “my first entries”:http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2007/06/15/wordpress-theme-releases-for-615/ have appeared, which I’m very, very excited about. I’m not certain about the exact readership statistics at this point, but I know that the feed shows over 5500 subscribers, which is the largest readership I’ve ever written for. It’s a bit intimidating, really, but I think it’s also going to be a lot of fun. It’s just nice to finally be putting my writing skills to good use. Granted, right now it’s simply making lists, but hey, a guy’s gotta start somewhere, right?

Congrats, dude!
It’s always great to get paid for things you’d probably would keep up with anyway. :)
It’s gonna be tough and first, but then it will just flow :)
Yay! Welcome the world of freelance. Hope your new gig treats you well and fairly.
That’s a cool site, never saw it before today. So thanks for the link, and congrats on the gig.
Steve, it definitely is. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.
Thanks for the encouragement, Ajay. Took me awhile to put the themes post together last night, since I had check everything over for sponsored links and such. I’m sure I’ll hit a rhythm with it pretty soon, though. :)
Thanks, Jim. I’m hoping it’s just the first step.
Yeah, it’s a staple in my WordPress dashboard, Eric. I know a lot of people get annoyed with the news feeds there, but I rely on them for fresh content in the WP world. :)
How much ? :)
Congratulations. Nicely written. I guess I’ll have to pay more attention now that I know the guy writing it. ;)
Congratulations, Jim! I hope this is the first of many more gigs to come.
Hey Jim, I thought you mentioned a plugin a few days ago that allows display of Blogroll on its own page… am I mixed up? You know which plugin that might be?
I thought I’d give it a try, as per our ‘minimalism’ discussions. :)
Well, Eric, I don’t remember mentioning a specific plugin. What I’m doing in my case is simply running the “ExecPHP”:http://bluesome.net/post/2005/08/18/50/ plugin, setting up an unnumbered list, and using the wp_list_links tag on the page to show my blogroll there. I’m sure there are plugins out there – I just haven’t taken the time to go find a good one that works with WP 2.2 since I don’t mind playing with PHP code a bit.
