mastication
25 years ago, we made a game of this while calling in security checks, but I can’t remember half of the cool words we used — and the one we got chewed out for that was completely innocent.
I was starting to think this one was going to go completely ignored. :) ‘Mastication’ is definitely one of those words that almost make you uncomfortable, even though it’s completely innocent. Funny how the English language works, isn’t it? :)
Google… I know we’re all used to it now, but if you knew nothing of the Brand, then it’d creep you out.
Actually, it wouldn’t. I knew what a ‘google’ was in about the third grade, so I was already pretty accustomed to it when I heard of the company.
Exacerbate. “The WORST part is that my MOM caught me exacerbating the situation.”
I’ve also found PERPENDICULAR somewhat amusing when it’s crossed my path.
‘Exacerbate’ I can see. ‘Perpendicular’ – I dunno. Mebbe I’m just too used to it for that one to seem odd to me. My wife reminded me of another the other day – ‘defenestrate.’
