I have a problem – I’m a night owl, and I always have been. Trouble is, being a night owl conflicts terribly with my daily routine. Come 9, 10 o’clock at night, my mind really starts to wake up and kick into high gear (provided, of course, I’m not simply wiped out and physically exhausted). My most productive hours of the day fall between 9PM and about 2 or 3AM. But with horses _and_ a regular 8-to-5 job, I can’t just stay up late and take advantage of my body’s natural rhythms and the quiet of the nighttime to get things done. I have to _try_ to go to bed at a reasonable hour so I can get up at 5AM to start my regular day. This also means that I usually end up only averaging about five to six hours of sleep a night because I have trouble forcing myself into bed any earlier than 11PM. And the even worse part of it is that my body ideally demands eight hours of sleep a night.

This makes me wish all the more to get that first novel written and sold and make greater strides toward self-employment. I don’t know if it will ever happen, but hey, folks can dream, right?
