Breakfast isn’t really my thing. I mean, it used to be. Back then, what kid _wasn’t_ wild about breakfast? Especially when you could open up just about any cereal box and pull out the free toy. They don’t do that anymore, incidentally. The free toys. Which is a shame. Heck, even as an adult, I’d still buy cereal just for the free toys.
But I digress.
I think college ruined breakfast for me. Late nights studying, early morning classes, and a craving for more sleep did it. Mediocre cafeteria breakfasts sure didn’t help things, either. Soggy eggs, cold oatmeal, rubbery pancakes – you know the drill.
I guess I’m just a little bit indifferent to the usual breakfast stuffs. Eggs, cereal, french toast – they all get old after a while. How did the usual selections of breakfast foods become so limited and boring? I would much prefer having lunch twice a day because at least _that_ would open up a whole new range of available meals.
Cold pizza. Reheated sloppy joes. Heck, reheated _anything_ is generally better than eggs for the umpteenth time in a row.
At least then I wouldn’t be skipping what is supposed to be the most important meal of the day. Besides, does it really matter _what_ you eat for breakfast, so long as you eat _something_?
Anyone have any good suggestions for new, interesting, and tasty breakfast meals? Any quick and easy recipes you have would be greatly welcome.
oh yeah?! Well I PREFER BREAKFAST! Ha! Take THAT!! :P**pffbbttt**
anyways, c’mon jim, just cuz I go to bed at 2am & get up at 9-10am doesn’t mean my first meal (usually around noon) needs to be lunch! I’m a solid oatmeal-with-brown-sugar-and-pecans-and-applesauce fan. That, or some granola. That’s gotta be the first thing in my stomach, lest I feel like puking from the weight of heavier foods.
but who’s not to love an egg-turkey-cheese ommlet/quesedilla?? That’s breakfast that can be construed as lunch, or a late-night dinner. & lest we convert all our meals to breakfasts short of dessert, a belgian waffle with icecream on top, or my college fav, cinnamon toast crunch with moose tracks icecream.. mmm-mmm good!
I guess I’ve just gotten bored with the standard breakfast fare. Eat the same thing every day and you usually get tired of it. And I’m tired of the usual breakfast stuff. Hence the request for suggestions. :)
I’m not a breakfast person myself. Probably because I just can’t face food that early on. I do remember though that what used to get jokingly called ‘student breakfast’ would be whatever leftovers were in the fridge from dinner the night before. So yes, I have eaten things like reheated pizza for breakfast.
I don’t honestly think what you eat is as important as the fact that you eat something. So perhaps you should try eating whatever takes your fancy? Or perhaps include a few ‘brunch’ items instead? Kedgeree, eggs benedict and the like are all technically brunch I think.
My personal preference is a continental breakfast. Some fresh bread rolls, slices of cold cooked meats and cheese, with a mug of hot chocolate.
Stephanie, I have to agree. If I remember my basic health class information correctly, the reason why breakfast is so important is because it provides the foundational fuel for your body to function for the day after a long night of restful sleep (yeah, right) where your body did its usual rest and repair.
And yes, I actually do tend to like a good continental breakfast spread, as well. People just tend to look at me really funny when I sit down to a plate of spaghetti for breakfast. ;-)
I’m not a big breakfast eater, either, mainly because I’m not a morning person. My favorites are breakfast burritos, omelets, or egg scrambles. It must be the protein that draws me.
